About

ANS Coastal Engineering Consultancy was created to provide engineered solutions to all problems regarding the effective management of the coastal zone and to showcase new and innovative ideas and technologies as it relates to the coastal and marine environment. 

The coastal environment is an extremely important global resource where presently almost 40% of the world’s population lives within 100 km of the coast. Climate change and sea level rise, however, mean an increase in the frequency and intensity of coastal hazards, exacerbating pre-existing socio-economic and environmental problems. Now more than ever, new solutions need to be developed to keep pace with the changing climate and rising sea levels.

What makes us different? A combination of technical expertise in areas such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Numerical Modelling of the Hydro-Morphodynamic characteristics of the Coastal Zone and Nature-Based Solutions (NBSs), Shoreline Management strategies, Coastal Engineering Design, Coastal data collection, processing and analysis, professional consulting experience on the evaluation/review of large-scale interventions and a straightforward passion for the coastal and marine environment and finding solutions to complex problems!

Projects

A numerical model of the Buccoo Reef, Tobago was created using Delft3D to investigate the hydrodynamic and wave conditions, its effectiveness at coastal protection through wave attenuation and dissipation and how continued coral reef degradation and sea level rise will affect future wave conditions

Assessment of the performance of  projects to date based on the following criteria: Strategic Relevance, Effectiveness, Financial Management, Efficiency, Sustainability as well as Factors Affecting Performance and Cross Cutting Issues.

Extreme Value Analysis can be difficult and time-consuming. Coastal Extreme Value Analysis (CEVA) v 1.0.1 was created using the pyextreme module within Python. The software consists of an ‘easy-to-use’ Graphical User Interface (GUI) which extracts extreme values from a given time series, calculates return periods and plots graphs in a matter of seconds!
